Packing Tape

Packing tape is the standard tape for sealing corrugated cartons, a thin plastic film (commonly BOPP) coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive. It differs from masking tape, meant for temporary holding, and cloth-reinforced duct tape for repairs and bundling. Choose the adhesive (acrylic, hot-melt or natural rubber) for temperature and storage conditions, then thickness, width, colour or print, and hand-dispenser or carton-sealer use.

About this category

Packing tape is a primary fixing product in packaging and shipping operations for corrugated boxes, consisting of a thin plastic film (backing material is a product-level attribute varying across packaging-tape constructions; common examples include BOPP and polyethylene) coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. Models differ in adhesive system between acrylic, hot-melt (synthetic rubber) and natural-rubber adhesives according to product design; the adhesive system is a key procurement variable, with tack, holding, temperature behavior and substrate compatibility determined by the tape formulation and documented performance. Models differ in documented adhesion level defined in the product's specifications, in film thickness and tear resistance, and in tape width and length. Models differ in color between transparent, brown (suited to corrugated boxes) and printed tape carrying company logos or warning labels. Models differ in application method between manual tapes applied with a hand dispenser and machine tapes that run on carton-sealing machines. Suitability of a single tape for every box type or environmental condition should not be assumed; adhesive selection depends on use conditions and shipping requirements. Tamper-resistance, weather-resistance or reusability characteristics are not assumed as absolute properties. Masking tape, duct tape and shipping labels are excluded from this category. Buyers select packing tape models based on adhesive type, thickness, width, length, color and application method.
