Conventional Control Panels
Conventional Control Panels are the electrical heart of the alarm system, receiving signals from detectors and call points and operating alarms and connected equipment. They typically support 2-16 zones and do not identify individual devices within a zone. Suited to small and medium buildings with simple requirements.

About this category
Conventional control panels are the backbone of alarm systems in buildings with limited complexity. The design: a modular steel enclosure with a human interface (simple LCD/LED, control buttons, keyed switches), smart control electronics, backup batteries typically providing 24 h of standby and 30 min of alarm, zone input terminals, and output terminals (sounders, strobes, transmission to civil defense). Operating principle: each zone is a separate loop with a steady resistance in normal state; when any detector or MCP operates, the resistance changes and the panel detects it and identifies the affected zone. Signal states: fire (confirmed), fault (loop issue), pre-alarm (warning), and disabled. Typical capacity: 2-16 zones in small-to-medium models, 15-25 devices per zone. Applications: small residential buildings, retail shops, schools, offices, small warehouses, and small-to-medium facilities. A substantive difference from addressable panels: conventional identifies only the zone (a defined area), while addressable identifies the device precisely; conventional is cheaper and simpler, addressable serves larger and more complex buildings. A technical note: panel selection depends on required zone count, considering that expansion is limited; for large buildings, addressable panels are preferred. Maintenance: monthly visual check, quarterly battery test, annual full functional test. Approval documentation varies between models — verify product and project requirements when specifying.
