Fire Hose Reels

Fire Hose Reels are fixed systems with a permanently-round rubber hose 25-30 m long connected to a continuous water supply. They differ fundamentally from flat hoses by being immediately ready for use without pre-charging, and are unrolled manually to deploy. Ideal for corridors and floors in commercial buildings and hotels.

About this category

Hose reels solve an important challenge in fire response: fast first-aid firefighting with a ready, permanently-round hose that needs no laying out or charging. The design: a steel or aluminum frame with a rotating drum and a control handle, a permanently-round rubber hose (typically 19 mm or 25 mm diameter) 25-30 m long that needs no spreading before use, a control nozzle (On/Off/Jet/Spray) at the end, a continuously-open water-supply valve, and a connection to the main water network. Types: fixed hose reels mounted stationary on the wall, swinging hose reels that rotate 180° to exit a cabinet, and semi-automatic reels that start water flow as the reel is opened. A key advantage: rapid readiness and simple operation for people with appropriate basic training, and continuous flow as long as the supply is available; use is tied to the facility's response and evacuation plan. Applications: hotels, commercial buildings, hospitals, schools, large offices, multi-story residential facilities, and airports. Typical supply: 2-7 bar pressure, 0.4-1 L/s flow. A substantive difference from flat hose: reels have continuous rapid flow but a small diameter, while flat hose has high flow capacity with prior preparation. A technical note: install so no point in the building exceeds 30 m from a reel. Maintenance: monthly visual check, annual operational test, hydrostatic test every 5 years. Specifications follow NFPA 1962, EN 671-1, and SBC 801.
