Fire Valves

Fire valves are the control points that regulate water flow inside the fire system. They include landing valves, pressure-reducing valves (PRV), check valves, and alarm valves. Each type performs a specific role in the system, and their coordination ensures suitable pressure and flow to each floor or protection zone in the building.

About this category

Fire valves are the control points that ensure water flows at the right pressure at each location in the system. Types: landing valves installed on each floor on the vertical riser, opened manually to connect a fire hose — available in 2.5" and 1.5" sizes in brass or coated steel. Pressure-reducing valves (PRV) reduce pressure on lower floors where it is too high for a manual user (down to ~7-10 bar). Check valves prevent water back-flow when the pump stops and need no external control. Alarm valves are used in wet sprinkler systems; they trigger an audible alarm when water flows due to a sprinkler head opening. OS&Y valves (outside screw & yoke) are used for large main valves with a visible open-position indicator. Butterfly valves are used for large pipes (150+ mm) that need quick action. Materials: brass (corrosion-resistant, for small diameters), cast iron (for larger diameters), and stainless (for harsh environments). Applications: multi-story buildings, factories, sprinkler systems, hydrant networks, and pump stations. A technical note: the need for PRVs is determined by the hydraulic design and the outlet-pressure limits of the applicable code, to avoid dangerously high pressure on lower floors. Maintenance: annual visual check, annual operational test, and PRV pressure calibration every 5 years. Specifications follow NFPA 20, NFPA 25, EN 12259, and AWWA.
