Flat Fire Hoses

Flat Fire Hoses are rubber or textile hoses that lie flat when empty and inflate under pressure to deliver water from the hydrant or valve to the fire. They differ from reel hoses by being folded on themselves or inside a cabinet, and are used over longer distances and at higher flows. Common diameters are 1.5" and 2.5" at lengths of 15-30 m.

About this category

Flat fire hoses are the main high-flow manual water firefighting line in large facilities. The design: a flexible inner rubber lining (nitrile or EPDM) that carries water without leakage, an outer braided polyester or nylon weave that reinforces the hose against pressure and abrasion, and an optional PVC or rubber outer coating that resists abrasion, oils, and chemicals. Standard diameters: 1.5" (40 mm) for lighter indoor use and 2.5" (65 mm) for heavy industrial use and long operations. Lengths of 15, 20, and 30 m depending on application. Working pressure 10-14 bar, burst pressure 42+ bar. Applications: large factories, warehouses, assembly plants, refineries, loading platforms, civil defense teams, and large construction sites. A key advantage: flat folding stores long lengths in a small footprint (inside a fire cabinet or Z-folded). A substantive difference from a hose reel: the reel delivers quickly over a limited distance (25-30 m); the flat hose covers longer runs (by connecting several lengths). A technical note: a flat hose needs charging (water fill) before full use, so response time is longer than for a reel. Annual pressure testing is required. Specifications follow NFPA 1961, EN 14540 (lay-flat hose), and SASO.
