Fire-Resistant Barriers
Fire-Resistant Barriers are boards, curtains, and materials used to create thermal and fire separations between different building zones. They include fire-rated gypsum boards, thermal fiberglass curtains, insulating fiber boards, and fire-rated glass. Essential for dividing the building into fire compartments that stop fire spread.

About this category
Fire-resistant barriers implement fire compartmentation — dividing the building into protected zones to stop fire spread. Types: fire-rated gypsum boards (12.5 or 15 mm with glass fiber and intumescent additives, 30-120 minutes), mineral wool boards (dense rockwool with heat resistance to 1,000°C), calcium silicate boards (high heat and moisture resistance), vermiculite boards (expanded, lightweight), fire curtains (fiberglass dropping vertically or horizontally), smoke curtains (lighter, auto-deploying on detection), and fire-rated glass (for evacuation-route glazing). Common performance ratings: EI30, EI60, EI90, EI120, EI240 for critical uses. Applications: floor separations in multi-story buildings, apartment separations, hospital ward separations (phased evacuation), large-factory separations, corridor and stairway separations, theater fire curtains (between stage and audience where required by code), and data-center cabinet separations. A difference from ordinary materials: fire-rated barriers use heat-reactive chemistry or very low thermal conductivity to insulate heat and block fire. An important note: installation must follow manufacturer instructions precisely (specific screws, tape, overlap); any error voids the reference rating. Assembled barriers are tested as whole systems (frame + boards + insulation); review the model's acceptance file at installation.
