VOC Monitors
VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) Monitors are specialized instruments for measuring low concentrations of VOCs in indoor and outdoor air at buildings and modern work facilities. They differ from industrial PID detectors by being calibrated for a finer range suited to air-quality work, and some carry individual-compound discrimination with advanced analytical techniques.

About this category
Air-quality VOC monitors differ fundamentally from industrial PID detectors in range and accuracy. Principle: VOCs are a wide group of organic compounds with high vapor pressure that evaporate at ambient temperature — including formaldehyde (from building materials), benzene (from fuel), toluene (from paint), xylene, acetone, solvents, and cleaning agents. Health effects: eye and respiratory irritation, headaches, dizziness; long-term may cause liver, kidney, or carcinogenic damage (e.g., benzene). Measurement technologies: PID (total measurement, fast but non-specific), GC/MS (gas chromatography + mass spectrometry, the most accurate but laboratory-based), FID (flame ionization detector, for industry), and metal-oxide semiconductor (MOS, cheaper for homes and offices). Applications: indoor air-quality consultants, pre-occupancy reviews of new buildings, manufacturing with vapors, printing and paint shops, 3D-printing facilities, environmental cleanup sites, research and laboratory facilities, and environmental incident teams. A substantive difference from industrial PID detectors: AQ monitors emphasize accuracy at low ranges at higher cost; industrial PID units emphasize coverage of higher ranges. A technical note: compounds with the largest health impact (such as formaldehyde) need specific sensors. Monitors are selected per site risk assessment and application requirements, with accuracy and range specified at product and model level in the manufacturer file.
