Overshoes & Covers

Overshoes slip over regular shoes or safety boots to provide temporary protection or environmental isolation between a contaminated floor and a clean facility interior. They differ from full boots by being quick to remove; most are hygienic covers without a protective toe, while visitor safety overshoes include a toe cap depending on the product. Available as single-use (PE) or reusable (PVC, neoprene) types, in heights from ankle to above the knee.

About this category

Overshoes serve two very different purposes. First: protect a clean floor from the dirt on the shoe (research cleanrooms, operating theaters, pharmaceutical plants). Second: protect the shoe from floor materials (entering a chemical site in regular clothing then removing the cover on exit). Single-use types are made of low-density polyethylene or polypropylene with an elasticated ankle band and are discarded after one use, typically 25-50 microns thick. Non-slip variants carry a textured PVC outer. Reusable types use heavy PVC or neoprene, are washed, serve for months, and carry defined chemical resistance. Models vary in height: short (above the ankle), mid-length (mid-shin), and high (above the knee for trouser coverage). Applications: cleanroom laboratories, semiconductor plants, food-audit sites, construction-site visitors, chemical-response technicians, and asbestos-abatement workers. A technical note: hygienic overshoes do not provide impact or falling-object protection and must be worn over a safety shoe on construction sites; protection of visitor safety overshoes is taken from each product's data. No single standard covers overshoes; refer to product data for the application (cleanroom, chemical resistance, slip resistance).
