Electronic Earmuffs

Electronic Earmuffs are cup earmuffs fitted with external microphones and internal speakers. They attenuate loud external noise and limit the level of reproduced sound according to the model's function and approval, while passing low-level sounds such as instructions and signals. They differ from traditional earmuffs by preserving communication and situational awareness while still protecting against sudden impulse noise.

About this category

Electronic earmuffs combine protection and situational awareness. External microphones pick up ambient sound, feed it through a digital amplification circuit, and output it to internal speakers at safe levels. When external sound exceeds a model-specific threshold, the circuit limits the reproduced sound level inside the cup (typically around 82 dB per EN 352-4/-7 and the model approval), so the earmuff behaves as a traditional passive muff. This technique is called Active Volume Control or Smart Cutoff. Attenuation values (SNR) are taken from the model approval and test data. Applications include hunting (hearing game while protecting against gunshot), security teams needing environmental awareness, worksites with warning signals between high-noise periods, and firearms training. Premium models include built-in AM/FM radio, Bluetooth, or an AUX input for two-way radio. Battery life is typically 30-350 hours by use pattern and model. Selection considers speech clarity, cutoff response speed to sudden noise, and headset weight. Specifications follow EN 352-7 and ANSI S3.19.
