Full-Face Respirators

Full-Face Respirators cover the entire face including the eyes and provide both respiratory and eye protection. They differ from half-face respirators by enclosing the whole face and offering a higher Assigned Protection Factor (APF = 50 under OSHA with quantitative fit testing). They suit environments with eye-irritating vapors or chemicals that may splash the eyes.

About this category

Full-face respirators combine two functions in one unit: respiratory protection and eye protection against irritating vapors and splash. The unit has a panoramic polycarbonate lens with 180° field of view, a silicone facepiece sealed around the face edge, and a 5-6 point head harness for tight fit. Replacement cartridges are the same ones used on half-face units, but the protection factor is 5× higher thanks to the better seal. Annual Fit Testing with Quantitative Fit Testing (particle counter inside the mask) is required. Selection considers facepiece material (silicone handles chemicals better than natural rubber), unit weight for long wear, and compatibility with prescription glasses (models with a built-in frame slot). Applications include paint and solvent manufacture, asbestos abatement, chemical laboratories, pharmaceutical plants, and decontamination work. Full-face respirators do not protect in oxygen-deficient atmospheres (<19.5% O2) or IDLH concentrations; those are SCBA and SAR territory. Specifications follow NIOSH 42 CFR Part 84 and EN 136.
