Rescue Winches
Rescue Winches are mechanical devices mounted on a tripod or davit to raise or lower a worker through an entry opening. They differ from general industrial winches by being man-rated per standard, with automatic brakes and a fixed hand crank. A core component of the confined-space entry and retrieval system.

About this category
In a rescue system the winch has two roles: lowering the worker into the space at a controlled rate, and hauling them up quickly in emergencies. The design: a steel body carrying a drum with 15-50 m of steel cable or webbing, a manual crank handle with a defined reduction ratio to ease effort, an automatic brake that holds the load when cranking stops, and an optional lock. The Man-Rated classification differs from general industrial winches in: higher load-test ratio (typically twice the rated load), a dual-brake system, and a crank that cannot release suddenly. Rated capacity is 140-200 kg for a worker with gear. Applications: tank entries, well maintenance, maintenance through floor openings, refinery response teams, and confined-space inspection work. A substantive difference from an SRL with integrated winch: a separate winch mounts only when needed and is ideal as spare gear, while an integrated SRL is fall-ready without a mode switch. A technical note: the winch is not a fall-arrest device; a separate SRL on an independent line is required during entry for free-fall protection. Specifications follow ANSI Z359.4 and EN 1496 Class A/B.
