Arc-Rated Face Shields
Arc-Rated Face Shields protect the face from the heat and flash of an electrical arc during work on distribution and control panels and in substations, worn over safety glasses with a hard hat and arc-rated balaclava. Unlike complete Arc Flash PPE Kits, they are bought individually to complete or replace face protection; choose by documented arc rating (cal/cm²) rather than flame resistance alone, lens type, and helmet mounting method.

About this category
This class serves to provide face protection in electrical work environments. Design details vary by model: lens type and optical treatment, documented arc protection rating (which may be expressed in cal/cm² within the test framework documented in product documentation), face frame, mounting system on helmet or holder, and compatibility with other protective equipment. Technical note: the face shield is a component within the overall electrical protection arrangement and is worn over safety glasses and works with additional protective equipment such as helmets, arc-rated balaclavas and arc-flash suits per the facility's approved arrangement; it does not replace the hazard assessment. Technical distinction: flame resistance (FR) is not automatically equivalent to an arc rating; arc-protection rating is tied specifically to product testing, marking, and specifications. Uniform ratings are not assumed across the category. Uses: electrical-maintenance work at substations, distribution panels, control panels, and industrial facilities. Procurement considerations: models may be compared on documented protection rating, lens type, compatibility with helmets and other protective equipment, product markings, and manufacturer documentation. Model specifications and documentation are reviewed before selection.
