Insulating Mats
Insulating Mats provide an insulated floor in front of switchboards and control stations, protecting the technician from a path to ground when touching a live element. The category includes rubber insulating mats classified to ASTM D178, switchboard matting, and high-voltage (HV) mats. Selection follows the panel voltage and permanent or temporary installation.

About this category
Insulating mats help limit the current path through the floor as part of an integrated electrical-protection system. Rubber insulating mats are made from butyl or EPDM rubber, classified to ASTM D178 as Class 0 (1000 V), Class 1 (7500 V), Class 2 (17 000 V), Class 3 (26 500 V), or Class 4 (36 000 V), with the class chosen against the panel voltage the mat faces. Typical sizes are 60×90 cm or 90×120 cm at 3-6 mm thickness. Switchboard matting is longer (10-25 m rolls, 1 m wide) for permanent installation along long panel rows. High-voltage HV mats serve substations and large power stations and are rated Class 3 or 4. Electrical floor signs placed at mat edges are listed under Safety Signs. The upper surface is usually knurled for slip resistance; the lower is smooth for good floor adhesion. Periodic crack inspection, periodic dielectric retesting per manufacturer guidance and site requirements, and storage away from oils and direct sunlight are mandatory. Specifications follow ASTM D178 and IEC 61111.
