Bubble Wrap

Bubble wrap is a protective packaging material of two polymer layers sealing in rows of air bubbles, wrapped around items to cushion them against shock and abrasion in transit. Unlike air pillows and packing peanuts, which mainly fill voids, it wraps the item directly. Buyers choose by bubble size (small for light items, large for heavier ones), roll width and length, perforated or continuous format, and anti-static (ESD) grade for electronics.

About this category

Bubble wrap is a protective packaging material consisting of two layers of polymer (material construction is a product-level attribute and may vary across bubble-wrap constructions) with evenly distributed trapped air bubbles sealed between them, forming an air-cell structure whose cushioning performance depends on material construction, bubble geometry, package design and application. Models differ in bubble size between small bubbles (suitable for void fill and protection of small items), medium bubbles and large bubbles (suitable for cushioning heavier products or filling larger voids). Models differ in material between lower-density polyethylene and higher-density polyethylene depending on design. Models differ in documented roll width and length, and in the gram-per-square-meter (GSM) weight documented in the product's specifications. Models differ in configuration between continuous rolls and sheets with pre-perforated separations for easier use. Universal protection against every impact, breakage or abrasion should not be assumed; bubble wrap protection depends on bubble size, product type and packing method. Anti-static (ESD) characteristics are not assumed across the category; anti-static bubble wrap is a specialized type using specific polymer formulations and is stated explicitly in the product specifications. Foam packaging, air pillows and packing peanuts are excluded from this category. Buyers select bubble wrap models based on bubble size, material, roll width, length and the target product.
