FM-200 Systems
FM-200 (HFC-227ea) Systems are total-flooding clean-agent suppression systems that achieve a suppression concentration of 7-9% in under 10 seconds. They differ from portable clean-agent extinguishers by being integrated fixed systems that protect an entire room volume. Designed to protect data centers, server rooms, and high-value equipment.

About this category
FM-200 systems achieve full-room suppression in seconds without residue or equipment contamination. The design: high-pressure cylinders (24-25 bar) holding liquid HFC-227ea, steel distribution piping reaching ceiling-mounted discharge nozzles, an intelligent fire-detection system (VESDA smoke or heat detectors), a fire control panel with an evacuation-delay timer, and alarm sirens and strobes to clear the area before discharge. Suppression mechanism: HFC-227ea works mainly by absorbing heat from the flame, with some chemical inhibition of the combustion chain reaction; effective concentration 7-9% by volume (NOAEL = 9%), safe for occupants on prompt evacuation. Operating sequence: smoke detection → alarm → 10-30 s evacuation delay → FM-200 discharge in under 10 s → suppression concentration held for 10 minutes. Applications: data centers, server rooms, telecom centers, sensitive electrical cabinets, industrial control rooms, laboratories, and aerospace equipment. Standards: NFPA 2001 (Clean Agent Fire Extinguishing Systems), ISO 14520-9, and UL 2166. A technical note: FM-200 generates acidic decomposition products (HF) on prolonged exposure to high heat, so early discharge is critical. GWP (global warming potential) = 3220 — higher than modern alternatives; Novec 1230 is a modern substitute at GWP = 1. Maintenance: quarterly cylinder pressure check, semi-annual detection-system test, cylinder hydrostatic test every 10-12 years.
