Deluge Systems

Deluge Systems differ fundamentally from conventional sprinkler systems by using open sprinkler heads at all times. When the main valve is triggered by a detection signal, water flows from every head in the zone simultaneously. Used at sites with fast-spread risk such as fuel terminals, power stations, and refineries.

About this category

Deluge systems are designed to flood an entire area with water immediately to address fast-spread fires. The design: a permanently empty pipe network (no water, no compressed air), a main deluge valve that releases a large water flow, an independent detection system (UV/IR flame detectors, linear heat wires, or gas detectors), open sprinkler heads without bulbs or fuses (open nozzles), and a central control panel. Activation: detection sends a signal to the control panel, which opens the main valve so water flows at very high rate from every head at once. Key advantage: immediate full-area coverage, effective against fast-spreading fires (hydrocarbons, petroleum products, chemicals). Typical flow: 10-20 L/min/m² (far higher than ordinary sprinklers). Applications: fuel terminals and depots, tanker loading platforms, electrical power stations (transformers), flammable chemical storage, offshore oil platforms, aircraft hangars, and strategic storage facilities. A substantive difference from conventional sprinklers: sprinklers open individual heads over the specific fire, deluge opens the entire zone. An important technical note: water consumption is very large, requiring dedicated tanks or a very capable supply. Accidental activation causes catastrophic water damage, so the detection system is inspected rigorously. Specifications follow NFPA 15, NFPA 16, and EN 12845.
