Wet Pipe Sprinkler Systems
Wet Pipe Sprinkler Systems are the most common automatic sprinkler systems, with pipes filled with pressurized water at all times, discharging immediately when any sprinkler head opens. They differ from dry-pipe systems by their instant response and simpler design. Suited to areas that do not drop below freezing, and the standard choice for commercial buildings.

About this category
Wet pipe systems achieve the principle of instant response at the moment of fire detection. The design: a network of steel pipes run across the ceiling holding pressurized water at all times (6-10 bar), a main alarm check valve that lets water flow from the source only when a sprinkler head opens, sprinkler heads distributed at defined spacing (typically 3-4.5 m), a water supply (public main, or a fire pump with a jockey pump as designed) that maintains pressure, and a water-motor gong or flow switch linked to the valve. Activation: when the ceiling temperature reaches a defined threshold (typically 68°C or 93°C), the glass bulb inside the head bursts or the metal fuse link melts, and water starts flowing immediately from the opened orifice. Key advantage: instant response (seconds), simple design, high reliability, lower cost than the dry alternative. Applications: commercial buildings, hotels, hospitals, schools, offices, temperature-controlled warehouses, shopping centers, and heated factories. A substantive difference from dry systems: wet is faster to respond but susceptible to freezing; dry is slower (15-60 s) but works in cold environments. An important technical note: wet systems are prohibited where temperatures may fall below 4°C; they need added heating or conversion to a dry system. Maintenance: monthly visual check, annual flow test, internal inspection every 5 years. Specifications follow NFPA 13, NFPA 25, and EN 12845.
