Multi-Gas Detectors (4-5 Gas)
Multi-Gas Detectors monitor several gases in one portable instrument: oxygen (O2), combustible gases (LEL), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon monoxide (CO), and sometimes an optional fifth sensor (VOC, SO2, or NH3). The essential tool for confined-space entry across most heavy industries and oil and gas facilities.

About this category
Multi-gas detectors are the solution that monitors the main atmospheric hazards in confined spaces. The design: a palm-sized portable with several sensors integrated in one housing (each with its own port), a large color LCD showing all readings together, an internal sampling pump (in some models) to draw a remote sample through a hose, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that runs a full shift, a USB or IR port for data transfer, and internal memory for timestamped data logging. Classic typical mix: O2 (electrochemical), LEL (catalytic or IR), H2S (electrochemical), CO (electrochemical), plus an optional fifth sensor by application (VOC/PID, SO2, NH3, Cl2, HCN). Applications: refinery tank entries, wastewater treatment maintenance, underground well and tank inspection, confined-space welding, mine inspection, emergency response teams, and chemical-site logistics. A key advantage: simultaneous monitoring of the main atmospheric hazards for the sensors fitted, data logging for later analysis, and per-gas tiered alarms. A substantive difference from single-gas: multi-gas covers several hazards together but is heavier, more expensive, and needs more charging and calibration. Hazardous-area listings vary between models — review the product documentation and site requirements.
