About this category
Not every metal cabinet is a hazmat storage cabinet; approved cabinets have double-wall construction with an insulating air gap, a self-closing door with a fusible link, adjustable shelves with inner spill lips, and ventilation ports fitted with flame arresters. Flammable-liquid cabinets are rated to NFPA 30 and hold up to 60 gallons (about 227 L) of Class I and II liquids per cabinet, or up to 120 gallons (about 454 L) of Class IIIA — used for solvents, paints, and fuels. Corrosive-chemical cabinets are built from polyethylene or acid-coated steel and store acids and bases. Outdoor enclosures such as jobsite lockers and outdoor hazmat buildings serve outdoor storage with built-in secondary containment. Gas cylinder storage relies on cages and racks with restraint chains that prevent cylinders from falling, with oxidizing cylinders separated from flammable ones. Incompatible materials must be stored in separate cabinets (acids apart from bases, oxidizers apart from flammables), with proper ventilation and grounding to dissipate static. Specifications follow NFPA 30, OSHA 1910.106, and EN 14470-1.
