Climbing Harnesses

Climbing Harnesses are designed for repeated ascent and descent on ladders, towers, and structures. They differ from industrial fall-arrest harnesses by being lighter, more flexible, and having front or sternal attachment points. Used in technical climbing, rope-access industrial work, and at-height inspection.

About this category

Climbing harnesses differ from full industrial harnesses in several ways. Weight is far lower (sometimes 500 g versus 1-2 kg) to allow free movement; the construction is more flexible with dynamic webbing that permits body rotation during climbing. The sternal (front) D-ring lets the worker ascend with rope grabs or mechanical ascenders. The harness carries gear loops to hang tools on it during climbing. Types: Full Body Climbing (chest and thighs) for complete fall arrest, Chest Harness (worn with a sit harness) for technical climbing, and Sit Harness (waist and legs), used industrially for rope access and work positioning together with a chest harness, but not on its own as a full-body fall-arrest harness. Industrial applications: telecom tower technicians, climbing work in refineries, façade cleaning via rope access, industrial caving, and technical rescue operations. A technical note: sport-climbing harnesses may not hold ANSI Z359.11 approval for industrial work; dual-rated harnesses to EN 12277 (climbing) and EN 361 (industrial) are preferred. Specifications follow ANSI Z359.11, EN 361, and EN 12277 by model.
