Overhead Lifelines

Overhead Lifelines mount above the work area and allow movement beneath within the designed coverage area with a continuous overhead connection, avoiding lateral offsets that create swing-fall risk. They differ from horizontal HLLs by having the worker directly under the line rather than beside it, keeping the connection vertical. Ideal for vehicle, horizontal-tank, and assembly-station maintenance in large plants.

About this category

Overhead lifelines expand protection from a single path to a three-dimensional area. The design: a cable or beam mounted overhead at 5-50 m length depending on the site. The worker clips to an SRL or vertical lanyard that drops from the line, so the worker moves beneath the line freely while staying protected vertically from falls. Advanced designs use a trolley that slides along the cable with the worker, keeping the connection directly overhead. Installation types: fixed overhead lifeline in permanent ceilings, portable overhead lifeline on a movable gantry or jib boom, and multi-span for larger coverage. Applications: truck and train maintenance (under the line while working on top panels), large horizontal tank maintenance, aerospace assembly stations, and automotive polishing and painting. A substantive difference from horizontal HLLs: horizontal HLLs allow movement along one path, overhead lifelines allow movement across an area. Specifications follow ANSI Z359.6 and EN 795 Type C/D. The design requires a structural study to confirm ceiling capacity.
