Leading Edge SRL

Leading Edge SRLs are built specifically for work directly above a fall edge where the lifeline passes over a sharp corner during a fall. They differ from standard SRLs by having an additional shock absorber and cut-resistant webbing where the lifeline contacts the edge. Essential for roof work and openings where the anchor is at the same level as the worker or slightly below.

About this category

Standard SRLs are designed assuming the anchor is above the worker, so during a fall the worker drops vertically and the line never contacts an edge. At some sites — roof edges, floor openings, platforms with low guardrails — the anchor is at the worker's level or lower, so the line contacts the edge during a fall. That contact can cut an ordinary line and remove protection. Leading Edge SRLs address this with three modifications: cut-resistant line or webbing at the edge-contact zone, a secondary shock absorber that reduces the extra impact force from the corner, and an improved drum design to resist damage. Check the model's current rating under the adopted ANSI Z359.14 edition and its documented leading-edge conditions (a Class B rating alone does not prove edge suitability), and take the extra clearance for the line's bend over the edge from the model's manual. Applications: plant-roof maintenance, work at roof openings, and inspection in sites where an overhead anchor is not possible. A substantive difference from standard SRLs: ordinary SRLs are not suitable for edge work, Leading Edge SRLs are built specifically for it. Specifications follow ANSI Z359.14 under the model's documented leading-edge rating (e.g. Class 2 in the current edition).
