Slings & Straps

Slings & Straps connect the load to the hoist or crane and distribute lifting forces safely across the load. The category includes webbing slings, round slings, chain slings, and wire-rope slings; ratchet tie-downs secure loads in transit and must not be used for lifting. Selection follows load capacity, load type, and whether load edges are sharp or soft.

About this category

Choosing the right sling drives the safety of the entire lift. Polyester webbing slings are flexible and gentle on painted surfaces and are color-coded by capacity (purple 1 t, green 2 t, yellow 3 t, grey 4 t, red 5 t). They come in eye-and-eye and endless designs. Round slings use a protective jacket over internal polyester fibers and work in multiple hitches (choker, basket, vertical), carrying higher loads than flat slings. Chain slings use Grade 80 or 100 alloy chain, carry 100+ tonnes, and serve loads with sharp edges or corrosive environments. Wire-rope slings are flexible and strong and serve refineries and loading stations. Ratchet tie-downs are not for lifting but for securing loads on trucks and pallets during transport, with 500-5000 kg lashing capacity. Selection considers lift angle (the smaller the sling angle measured from the horizontal, the greater the sling force), edge type, and environmental corrosion. Pre-use inspection is mandatory. Specifications follow EN 1492 for textile and round slings, EN 818-4 for chain slings, EN 13414 for wire-rope slings, and ASME B30.9 for slings generally, while lashing straps fall under EN 12195-2.
