PAT Testers

PAT Testers check the safety of portable electrical appliances within periodic inspection programmes at industrial, commercial and educational sites and rental shops, using tests such as earth-bond continuity, insulation and leakage depending on the model. Unlike insulation testers, they run a sequence of appliance tests and record the results; select by supported tests, recording method (printer or digital connectivity), and internal database capacity.

About this category

This class serves to test portable electrical appliances within facility inspection programs. Design details vary by model, with possible tests — depending on the product — such as protective-conductor or earth-bond continuity testing, insulation-related testing, leakage-related testing, or other appliance-safety tests; uniform functions are not assumed across the category. Recording and documentation method (buttons, display, printer, digital connectivity), control system, and documented safety rating also vary. Technical note: the PAT tester is a testing tool within the facility's electrical-safety arrangement and works with the approved inspection program; it does not replace that program or its procedures. Technical distinction: a PAT tester's inclusion of one test does not mean it supports every test; supported functions are defined by the product datasheet. Uses: inspection programs at industrial facilities, rental shops, educational facilities, commercial facilities, and health facilities. Procurement considerations: models may be compared on documented supported tests, recording and documentation system, internal-database capacity, safety rating, and ease of use. The product datasheet is reviewed before selection.
