Welding Flux

Welding Flux is a chemical agent that protects the weld zone and improves weld properties in specific processes, chiefly submerged arc welding, gas welding and brazing, in pipe and heavy fabrication shops. It is supplied separately, unlike the flux inside flux-core wire, and protects chemically rather than with gas; buyers choose by target process, base metal and form (powder, granular or paste), and keep it dry.

About this category

This class serves providing chemical protection or improving weld properties in varied processes. Flux characteristics vary by model: chemical composition, form (powder, granular, or paste), target process type (submerged arc welding, gas welding, brazing), and compatibility with the metal. Technical note: flux is a consumable used within specific welding processes and does not replace the welding machine or other base materials; it differs from the flux inside flux-core wire. This class differs from shielding gases in using chemical rather than gaseous protection. Uses: heavy industrial manufacturing sites, pipe-fabrication shops, large-sheet welding shops, and industrial brazing work. Operating considerations: selecting the flux based on process and target metal, storage to avoid moisture and contamination, and training in correct use. Model specifications, composition, target process type, and metal compatibility are reviewed in the product documentation before selection.
