Overview
A confined-space rescue is anything but a simple operation; it is a high-risk emergency that demands specialized equipment and a trained team. The products in this category let the team reach the casualty safely and extract them within a critical time window.
Product Types
The category covers rescue tripods with manual or powered winches for lowering and retrieving workers, rescue winches and fall arresters, confined-space blowers and ducting, specialized rescue kits (high-angle, water, trench), with self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA, under Respiratory Protection) and stretchers (under Rescue Equipment), rescue harnesses and lifting pulleys, cutting and extrication tools, intrinsically safe two-way radios for hazardous zones, and in-space air-quality monitors used before entry.
Selection Factors
Rescue tripods are selected by Safe Working Load (typically 180-250 kg), opening geometry (round or rectangular), and installation height. Breathing apparatus is selected by required service time (SCBA for 30-60 minutes, SAR for open-ended duration), environment type (oxygen deficiency, toxic gases, vapors), and apparatus weight. Scheduled team training is essential.
Difference from First Aid Stations
Confined Space & Rescue extracts a casualty from a hazardous environment. First Aid delivers care once the casualty has been reached — the two serve sequential stages of the response.
Standards Note
Equipment follows OSHA 1910.146 for permit-required confined space entry, EN 361 and EN 1497 for rescue harnesses, NFPA 2500 (incorporating the former NFPA 1983) for technical-rescue gear per the edition the project requires, and EN 137 for SCBA. Specifications vary by product and model.
