Loose Absorbents

Loose Absorbents are media of undefined shape poured directly from bulk containers onto the site, such as treated sawdust, wood fibers, or recycled natural materials. They differ from granules by their fibrous or flake form that suits spills across wide areas. Essential for large floors, construction sites, and wide workshop floors.

About this category

Loose absorbents solve an economic challenge: wide coverage at lower cost. Material nature: natural fibers treated to absorb liquids without disintegrating, or materials recycled from agricultural sources. Types by source: treated sawdust (most common for oils), compressed wood fiber (higher capacity than sawdust), coconut-husk fiber (renewable source for oil absorption), recycled cellulosic fibers, and mineral wool (for high-temperature spills). Uses: construction sites with fuel leaks, heavy-equipment yards, agricultural maintenance shops, large transport flooring, and general cleanup at fuel stations. Advantages: lower cost than granules and pads, quick wide-area coverage by manual spreading or mechanical distribution. Drawbacks: larger-volume waste that needs sweeping or mechanical collection, and unsuitability for aggressive chemicals. Material grade is selected based on the liquid and later sweep-up requirements from the product documentation before stocking the site standby supply. Storage requirements for loose material are reviewed to protect it from moisture before use.
