Cleaning Chemicals
Cleaning Chemicals are the chemical arm of cleaning and differ from mechanical equipment. The category includes general-purpose cleaners, disinfectants, floor cleaners and degreasers, glass cleaners, restroom cleaners, heavy-duty industrial degreasers, and hand sanitizers. Selection follows surface type, soil type, and disinfection requirements.

About this category
The wrong cleaning chemical can damage the surface, fail disinfection, or create a health hazard. General-purpose cleaners vary in formulation and pH by product and suit daily surface cleaning without heavy stain removal. Disinfectants contain antimicrobials such as hypochlorite (chlorine), QUATs (quaternary ammonium), or peroxides; each is effective against specific microorganism families. Floor cleaners contain surfactants that clean and leave a shine; degreasers are often alkaline to dissolve oils. Glass cleaners are fast-evaporating, containing alcohol or ammonia for a streak-free finish. Restroom cleaners may be acidic to remove calcium and rust deposits, and must be used with care on sensitive metals. Heavy-duty industrial degreasers are often strongly alkaline to remove industrial oils and carbon buildup from engines and equipment. Hand sanitizers contain 60-80% alcohol or chlorhexidine to kill skin microbes. Reading the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) before use, wearing appropriate PPE, and never mixing incompatible chemicals (chlorine + ammonia produces toxic gas) are mandatory. Disinfectants may be tested to EN 1276 or registered with the relevant authorities (e.g. EPA), and compatibility varies by product.
