Fire Extinguishers
Portable fire extinguishers are the first line of defense against small fires before they develop. The category includes water extinguishers for ordinary combustibles, foam for liquids, multi-purpose dry powder (ABC/BC), CO2 for electrical and liquid fires, wet chemical (K-Class) for kitchen oils, clean-agent extinguishers, vehicle extinguishers, and brackets and accessories.

About this category
Fires are not all extinguished with the same agent, and the wrong agent can escalate an incident. Water extinguishers (Class A) are for solid combustibles only and must not be used on electrical or flammable-liquid fires. Foam extinguishers (Class A+B) handle solids and liquid fires and form an insulating film over the fuel surface. Multi-purpose dry powder ABC extinguishers handle solid, liquid, gas, and electrical fires but leave a residue harmful to electronics. CO2 extinguishers (Class B, and Class C for energized electrical equipment in the US system; in the European system Class C denotes gas fires) are ideal for sensitive electrical equipment because they leave no residue, though they can cause cold burns (frostbite) on contact with skin. K-Class wet-chemical extinguishers are built specifically for cooking-oil fires through a saponification reaction that forms a soapy layer which seals and cools the hot oil. Clean-agent extinguishers such as FE-36 or HFC-227ea are used in server rooms and laboratories. Vehicle extinguishers mount with quick-release straps inside trucks and cars. Monthly visual inspection, weight check, annual service, and periodic hydrostatic retest at the interval set for the extinguisher type and governing standard (e.g. 5 or 12 years under NFPA 10) are mandatory. Specifications follow NFPA 10, EN 3, and SASO approval.
